Spammers are flooding Google search with its own AI notebooks

Public pages from Google's own AI notebook tool are being filled with junk and ranking in search results.

Public Gemini Notebooks are being spammed, and the spam is showing up in Google's search results. Gemini Notebooks are shareable pages made with Google's AI notebook tool. Anyone can make one, make it public, and it can end up indexed (added to Google's list of pages it can show in search).

Glenn Gabe (@glenngabe) says up to 12,000 of these URLs are now indexed and "spammed to the nth degree". He lists what he is seeing in there, "from peptides to discount codes to porn to apps". He also posted a screenshot of how the pages look in the results and noted that you can open a notebook and read the prompt that created it.

Why this matters for your site

Nothing here is a change to how Google ranks your pages. No update was announced, and nobody has said this affects normal websites. The practical effect is that junk pages on a Google-owned domain are sitting in results where a real answer could be, at least for now.

Gabe expects it to be short-lived. In an earlier post he wrote that he thinks these "will disappear soonish", while adding that of course public Gemini Notebooks are being spammed. That is one SEO's read, not a statement from Google. Google has not commented, and nobody knows yet how long the directory stays in search.

What to do

Do nothing. There is no setting on your site to change and no cleanup to run. If you make public Gemini Notebooks yourself, remember that anyone who finds the page can also read the prompt behind it, so keep anything private out of it.

The wider point is worth keeping in mind. Pages made in bulk with no real answer in them can get indexed fast, and they can just as quickly be wiped out. That is true on a Google property and it is true on your own domain. Pages that answer a real question for a real customer are the ones that survive a cleanup.
