Search Console now shows if AI answers use your pages
Google's new report tells you which of your pages show up in AI Overviews and AI Mode, but not how many people clicked. Separately, Google has a new system built to spot AI slop.

Getting into AI answers
A new report shows if AI answers use your pages
Google's new Generative AI performance report in Search Console (Google's free tool for site owners) is reaching more sites after a limited start. It shows how often your pages appear in AI Overviews and AI Mode, broken down by page, country and device.
There is one big limitation, though: this is impression data as opposed to clicks data.
Who this affects: Anyone with a website who wants to know if AI answers use their content.
- Open Search Console and look for the Generative AI performance report.
- Our take: check which page types appear, not just the total.

Google has a new system for catching AI written spam
Google published a research paper on a system called Scaled Abuse Forensics Examiner, or SAFE, built to spot content that breaks the spirit of its rules even when it matches no known spam pattern. Glenn Gabe says it dates to around mid 2026, before the August and September spam updates, and is the second such system identified this year.
The system is called Scaled Abuse Forensics Examiner (SAFE) and it is expressly designed to identify AI-generated content.
Who this affects: Anyone publishing pages generated in bulk with little original thought.
- Do nothing if your articles are written and checked individually.
