A new Search Console report shows if AI answers use your pages

The rollout is widening, but the numbers are impressions only, not clicks.

Google's new Generative AI performance report is showing up for more site owners. It lives inside Search Console, Google's free tool that tells you how your site does in search. According to Alex Groberman (@alexgroberman), the report started as a very limited rollout, and John Mueller has confirmed Google is releasing it bit by bit while reviewing feedback along the way.

What it actually tells you

The report shows how often pages from your site appear in Google's generative AI features. That includes AI Overviews, the AI summary at the top of some results pages, and AI Mode, the chat style version of Google search. You can see which pages appeared, which countries the impressions came from, which devices people used, and how that changed over time.

That is new. Until now, checking whether AI answers used your site meant screenshots, typing prompts by hand, third party tools, or guessing from your referral traffic.

The catch

It is impression data, not click data. Google will tell you that your page appeared inside an AI feature. It will not yet tell you how many people clicked from that AI feature through to your site. So a business can look visible and still get fewer visits than it used to, and you will not see that gap in this report.

Groberman argues the patterns still tell you something. If only your informational pages appear and your product, pricing and comparison pages do not, that is a gap. If one country shows up and another does not, that is a gap too.

What to do

Open Search Console, look for the Generative AI performance report, and check which of your pages are listed. If you do not see the report yet, wait a few days, since the rollout is still going.

One more thing worth knowing. Groberman points to Google's own "Good SEO is good GEO" piece, which says its generative AI features run on the same core ranking and quality systems as normal search, pulling from the same index. So there is no separate trick to chase. The pages that earn AI visibility are the ones that answer real questions clearly and load properly.

There is one big limitation, though: this is impression data as opposed to clicks data.
