Your About page may be your best page for AI answers

One SEO found a plain, human-written company history beating every other page in Google's AI results.

Lily Ray, an SEO working on an enterprise brand's website, says the page cited most often in Google's AI Overviews (the AI written answer at the top of Google) is the company's About page. She found it in the brand's Google Search Console Gen AI report, the new report that shows how often your pages appear in AI answers. It pulled 5x more impressions than the homepage.

The page was not built for AI. Ray describes it as a comprehensive, detailed page about the company's history, background and evolution over time, written for humans and visually appealing. Her takeaway is that the information about your company is easy for both people and AI systems to read when it is simply there, in plain sight, done well.

Why she is against building pages just for AI

A tactic doing the rounds right now is creating separate versions of your content aimed at AI tools. Ray thinks that is a bad bet. Her argument is that those pages are an easily gameable surface, and that bad actors will use them to inject prompts, exaggerate claims or feed AI agents promotional information that does not match what real visitors see.

Her prediction is that AI companies will start to ignore, discount or distrust those pages as the practice spreads. She also notes that Google, OpenAI and Anthropic have not asked site owners to make separate AI versions of their content, and she does not expect them to.

The part worth sitting with is the risk to people who are not trying to game anything. Ray says even well meaning companies whose AI pages carry exactly the same accurate information as their normal site could get caught up in a wider crackdown.

This is one person's observation on one site, not a Google announcement. Nobody has published data showing About pages do this across many sites.

What to do

Open your About page and read it as a stranger would. If it is three sentences and a stock photo, rewrite it so it actually says who founded the company, when, what you do, what you are known for and who the people are. Ray's phrasing is to make your company's history, expertise, people, products and reputation easy to find, understand and verify.

Then leave it at that. You do not need a special AI version of your site, and according to Ray that work may turn into a liability later. Spending the same hour making the human facing page better covers both.
