Google's business info box is turning into an AI answer

Three well known SEOs say the box that shows your hours and reviews is starting to include an AI summary.

The local knowledge panel, the box with your hours, phone number and reviews that shows up when someone searches your business name, is starting to show an AI Overview (Google's AI written summary at the top of results) inside it.

Barry Schwartz posted it after a tip from @TheSocialDude, writing that "Google local knowledge panels are turning into AI Overviews". Glenn Gabe replied that he has been seeing the same thing more and more, and that it sometimes shows on mobile but not on desktop. Marie Haynes added "Local Knowledge Panels are starting to show AI Overviews" to her running list of Google and AI changes.

What nobody knows yet

None of the three posted data on what this does to clicks, calls or direction requests. There is no word from Google on how wide the rollout is or which kinds of businesses see it. So treat this as something several SEOs are reporting, not a confirmed change.

What to do

Search your own business name on your phone and see what comes back. If an AI summary appears in your panel, read what it says about you and check it is right. The information Google leans on for that box comes from your Business Profile and from what other sites say about you, so the fix for a wrong detail is the same as it has always been. Open your Google Business Profile, check the hours, phone number, address and description are current, and correct anything stale.

If nothing has changed on your searches, do nothing. This is worth watching, not worth rebuilding your site over.

The reason it matters for small businesses is simple. A branded search, someone typing your business name, is usually your warmest traffic. Those people already know who you are and are looking for your number or your opening time. If a summary sits between them and that information, the answer they get is written by Google rather than by you. That makes the accuracy of your own listed details more valuable, not less.

Glenn Gabe's advice was short and covers it. "Keep an eye on this if you focus on local."

Yep, I've noticed this more and more recently. And it's sometimes just on mobile and not desktop. Keep an eye on this if you focus on local.
