Naming the author gets your page quoted more by AI
A study of nearly 12,000 prompts found that pages with a named, credentialed author were quoted far more often than anonymous ones.
Pages that say who wrote them get quoted by AI tools 1.8 times more often than pages with no author named. That comes from Semrush data shared by Alex Groberman, who posted the numbers on X.
The study compared 11,882 prompts and 304,805 cited links across ChatGPT, Google AI Mode and Perplexity against 921,614 pages that ranked in Google's top 20 but never got cited by an AI tool. So these are pages Google already liked. They still did not get picked up in AI answers.
What separated the cited pages
Groberman lists five gaps. Clarity and how well the page summarises its own answer came top at plus 32.83 percent. Signals like author credentials and quoting expert sources came next at plus 30.64 percent. Then question and answer formatting at plus 25.45 percent, clear section structure using headings, lists and tables at plus 22.91 percent, and structured data, which is code that tells search engines what a page is about, at plus 21.60 percent.
The point underneath all of it is that ranking and getting quoted are two different jobs. As Groberman puts it, a page can be relevant enough to rank and still be a poor citation candidate.

What to do about it
This is correlation, not a rule Google or OpenAI published, and it is one study shared by one SEO. But the fixes are cheap and they do not hurt anything.
Open your three or four most important pages. Add a real author name with a line on why that person knows the subject, so a plumber's guide to frozen pipes says it was written by the plumber who has done this for 15 years. Put the direct answer to the page's main question near the top in plain words. Break the rest into headed sections, and where customers ask the same thing over and over, write it as a question with the answer underneath.
If you already do this on your main service pages, your About page is the other one worth checking, since it turns up more often in AI answers than most owners expect.
